| I love 5-miute Fridays but since I don't know what I will write I don't always have the right picture. In this story I actually tied them together, but I never took a picture of that. |
Bug rushes in. "Mom, Bird just kicked me." The third tattle in 20 minutes. The tenth for the day.
Bird peeks around the corner, eyes large, always reluctant to tattle but big on justice.
Two stories start spilling out at once. And I can't hear either one. All I hear is the whooshing as patience disappears with my sigh and I start my "I-have-so-much-to-do why-can't-you-just-get-along" rant.
The girls look struck. And I recollect myself. Breathe deep and ask forgiveness. The Holy Spirit penetrates the thickness and reminds me of a book I read. If they can't get along, make them. So I find a soft rope and tie the girls together and explain that only I can untie it. When I am ready.
I continue cleaning, lighter, because the of back round music of giggling sisters.

Hi! I just popped over from 5 minute friday. I love your post! And the picture! What a great way to respond to sibling squabbles!
ReplyDeleteFun story, thanks. Reminds me of the story of heaven and hell. Both had people sitting around a table with bowls of aromatic soup, and spoons with handles that were way too large to handle. Those in hell were going hungry, those in Heaven were laughing, joking, eating, having a good time, because while they couldn't feed themselves with the spoons, they could feed each other. Tying your girls together so that they had to work and together was ingenuous, as proved by their giggling. Sometimes the way God gives us enough is amusing. Thanks for the smile. Nita
ReplyDeletei've use a similar strategy - braiding their hair together. similar results, too (usually) - lots of giggles!
ReplyDeletefun story!
ha ha ... now that is a novel idea! .. giggling is a sure way to dissipate the distress and turn it all around, am sure they loved being tied up in knots together :0 ... am sure they worked out a way to free each other and in the process work together. Thanks for sharing ... and nice to meet you too :)
ReplyDeleteOh, those girls have their work cut out for them if they think they're going to get the better of you! :) Love it. My mom used to tie our legs together like the 3-legged race. because you all know you have to wrap arms together to even stay up! ;)
ReplyDeleteFun visiting with you these 5 minute fridays!
SILLY. Nothing unifies them like mom getting them both at the same time.
ReplyDeleteWait! You're my hero! The one who can let the house go and just live!!! Oh, but these days I know too, too well. Blessings friend, and I hope you enjoy your company :)
ReplyDeleteAh, the fun of managing sibling dynamics!
ReplyDeletelove this!! i'll have to keep this in mind....my two have been under each others skin for days...the summer months seem to do this...it will be interesting to see and hear their reactions...lol!!!
ReplyDelete{Melinda} Too cute! Sometimes we moms have to get creative when the traditional methods don't work! :) Mine are 15 and 12 now -- not sure I could keep them restrained! :)
ReplyDeleteLove it! I tease my saying that I am going to tie a large sign around them that reads "I love my sister" and make them walk around town!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great inspirational blog! Thank you!
