Gritty girls

Around here we link up with Gypsy Mama and write for five minutes flat on Fridays.

We write because we love words and the relief it is to just write them without worrying if they’re just right or not. So we take five minutes on Friday and write like we used to run when we were kids.

Today's word: GRIT.

Grit makes me think of sand in my shoes after walking on a coarse beach. The 1-day old whiskers of a manly man. A tough guy from a scene of cowboys and indians. 

I don't think of grit as being feminine. Anything that isn't smooth and soft, anything that implies coarseness, that isn't feminine, right? But I want to change my thinking. I looked grit up in the dictionary. One of the definitions is, "firmness of character, indomitable spirit, pluck." Lord, I want my girls to be gritty. 

I know the coarse parts of life, the gritty ones, won't be comfortable and that they will scratch, maybe even bring blood to the surface. But Lord, I want gritty girls. I don't want my girls to have smooth, soft characters. Give them an indomitable spirit. Give them pluck. Pluck. Now that's a character trait I've never prayed about. Time to start. 

Lord, give her more grit.
