- Go Fish Guys: Christmas with a Capital C Alubm. Head bopping, must sing-a-long men's vocal group. They have strong Christian backgrounds. Their album of modernized hymns called Rockin' It Old School is on my list.
- I have mentioned our advent devotional before but I love it so much that it deserves a second mention. Ann Voskamp's A Jesse Tree Journey is available for free, to subscribers of her blog, A Holy Experience. It uses a Jesse Tree which plays on Isaiah 11, 1, 10 which says, " Out of the stump of David's family will grow a shoot--yes, a new Branch bearing fruit from the old root...In that day the heir to David's throne will be a banner of salvation to all the world...." Your Jesse tree can be anything, a silhouette on the wall, a small tree you have around, or you can imitate my feeble attempt to be crafty. I wandered around a woody path at a park nearby, found a fallen branch I liked, and decorated it with purple star garland (purple being the color of royalty and Jesus being the king). Each day we read a new story from the heritage of Jesus and Ann's commentary on it. If your kids are younger than 8 or 9 you will need to either skip the commentaries or put them in your own words. Each day there is a paper ornament (comes with the book, I cut them out and pasted them on cardstock and tied them with ribbon) that corresponds with the story that gets hung on the Jesse tree.
I know, I know, you are thinking, Laura, advent is half over, why are you sharing it now? I am putting this on your radar screen now. If you print out the book this year, you will have a plan for next advent!
An advent devotional...? What a great idea!
